Snack Review: Gnu Bars

Gnu Bars

I agreed to review these because I am a sucker for anything with an animal in its name. I have no idea what prompted them to name these bars after large hoofstock - perhaps their herbivorous nature, and, um, very fibrous output was the inspiration? Because the big selling point of the Gnu Bar is, in large type on each wrapper: “Flavor and fiber together at last.”

Now, I was a little concerned about this, actually, when when I also read: “One bar deliciously provides almost 50% of the daily value of fiber.” I mean, these are pretty small. What if I forget and eat three? (And if you think my worries are silly, you might want to read Diana’s review of Fiber One Bars.)

And then I turned the bar over and read the following:

“Visit www.GnuFoods.com - Join the Movement!”

Oh dear. Is that a joke, or is it just me?

Snack Review: Almond Brownie Balance Bar

Balance Bar

So every Superman or Batman has a Clark Kent or Bruce Wayne facet shown to the world when the crime-fighting cape isn’t donned. And though I don’t have the superpowers to fly or anything that even resembles the Batmobile, I think being a Candy Addict and Snackerrific writer is pretty cool.

But the key to maintaining both of these opposing lifestyles is moderation.

It could even be considered a balance, if you will. This is why I decided I wanted to write my debut review for Snackerrific on one of my favorite snacks: protein bars. Now, let me clarify, I do not consider a protein bar and a bag of chips to be considered in the same category of snacks.

Snack Review: Breyers Vanilla Fudge Brownie Ice Cream

Breyers Vanilla Fudge Brownie

OK, this is my own fault. I do nothing but complain about the passing of the Good Old Snacking Days and yelling at those new-fangled ice cream flavors to get off of my lawn. I even wrote in my peach ice cream article about my fear that one of my favorite old flavors, vanilla fudge twirl, might be extinct.

So what do I do when faced by a virtual wall of flavors that includes my favorite old standby? Do I stick faithfully to the old friend when he shows up, after all that complaining that he never calls and never writes? Do I rejoice at his return?

No. What I do is get distracted by all the choices and pick another flavor. Because look - vanilla fudge brownie. It’s exactly like vanilla fudge twirl except that it also has pieces of brownie in it. How can you lose?
