Snack Review: Town House FlipSides Cheddar Pretzel Crackers

It’s a situation familiar to most - it’s mid-afternoon, perhaps, or late at night, and you’re hungry. It’s not mealtime, but you need a snack right away. Then you get to a supermarket, and the trouble starts. Stretching for what seems like miles around are shelves of cookies, chips, and crackers of every single variety. Suddenly, you realize you’re not sure what sort of snack you even want. Chips or rice cakes? Cookies or mini-muffins? Crackers or pretzels?
For those of us who, more often than not, find ourselves torn in the snack aisle, the good people at Keebler have released a wonderfully addictive treat. New Town House FlipSides Pretzel Crackers are, as shown on the eye-catching red and blue box, pretzel on one side and cracker on the other. One glimpse of these and my snacking indecision came to an end for the night.
Although I loved the concept and the idea of getting two snacks for the price of one, I wasn’t sure if I’d like the taste. Any uncertainties were laid to rest with my first Pretzel Cracker. The cheddar flavor was very mild. However, the overall taste was quite buttery, which more than made up for the lack of cheesiness.
My first bite was overwhelmingly more cracker than pretzel, very Ritz-like. I like crackers more than pretzels, but I still wanted to experience both sides of the FlipSide. I bit into my second cracker pretzel-side up, and was instantly greeted by a less buttery, crisper, and more delicate “pretzel” taste… followed by the cracker I’d tasted earlier. I continued to alternate, quite enjoying the combined taste sensation.
When it comes to snacking, I too often tend to seek the most exotic - and most expensive - options around. A lot of times, this is due to that all-too-common dilemma - wanting to experience multiple tastes and textures in one snack. Sometimes I just need a simple, but interesting, snack like FlipSides Pretzel Crackers to remind me that an item need not be from a far-off land or out of my price range to be fantastic. I highly recommend Town House FlipSides Pretzel Crackers!

Your Flipsides experience doesn’t sound pleasant! What you describe doesn’t bear much similarity to the shape, size and texture of my pretzel-crackers, and I’m thankful for that. I agree; there was something not quite right about your box. I’ve not heard anyone describe Flipsides negatively, let alone as small, dark, or lacking in taste! Good luck with your second try; may it go far better tis time.

I have to agree with Butterflykyss - I thought these were terrible, and
so did my husband. They were bland and tasted like the box had been
around for years. I wouldn’t buy these again.

I’ve had the plain ones and thought they were great!

These taste very plain by themselves but I LOVE them with some cream cheese on top! It really brings out the cheesy flavor of the crackers!

They pretty much suck, they are really burnt looking and they have no special taste, I don’t recommend.

I first tried the original FlipSides and loved them! Then, quite by accident, I grabbed a box of the cheddar flavored FlipSides, and when I discovered my mistake, I decided to give them a try. Verdict: gave a peculiar and unpleasant aftertaste, and I’ll look twice at the box next time to be sure I don’t make the same mistake again.

When these first came out, I too decided they sounded great and bought
a box. I must say however, I completely disagreed with your verdict.
I thought they were awful, and tossed most of the box. Since then, I
have heard from a few other people who have tried them, and discovered
what the possible problem may have been.
In my box, these things were much darker colored than the image on
the box, and seemed smaller than they should have been somehow. At the
time, I just figured it was a case of ‘the Big Mac effect’. You know,
you’ve seen the commercials for the burger. Have you ever received one
that looks even remotely like that? No. The ‘real’ ones are sloppier
looking with shredded lettuce instead of the giant green lettuce, and
good luck finding one that isn’t either without special sauce entirely,
or far worse, so drenched in it that you might as well have ordered a
bowl of soup- it would be easier to eat in the car. But I digress
I just figured the marketing execs picked a picture of a perfect
After
pretzel-cracker thing, and the real ones were uglier
speaking with a few people though, I’m led to believe maybe my box
was a batch of ones that were burnt maybe?
Anyhow, after reading this, perhaps I will give them another shot. I
will be sure to post a retraction of my previous disagreement
(with, of course, a complaint that my first box was in fact burnt :P),
if in fact I simply had the misfortune of grabbing a bad box
