Snack Review: P.B. Loco’s Peanut Butter with Dark Chocolate Duo
Some time ago I entered a contest through Twitter and won a jar of P.B. Loco’s freakishly fantastic Peanut Butter.
Hmmm buddy. First let me tell how much I love peanut butter. It should be illegal to have this kind of an infatuation with a condiment but when you suggest combining my love affair with chocolate with an unhealthy crush on peanut butter? Prepare for more than the tongue gymnastics P.B.Loco suggests will happen when you taste their gourmet adult peanut butter. I was leaping over small children to meet the UPS truck when it arrived and I hadn’t even tried it yet.
Opening the jar I was warmly greeted with the peanut butter Gods smiling upon me and saying, “Go ahead, get a spoon.” Either that or it was the voices in my head. I’m not too sure because they sound the same.
Tongue gymnastics? Not even close. My tongue called up my belly and my taste buds and they threw down the biggest block party this side of the Mississippi. They were smash dancing across my teeth from the rich, velvety texture of the peanut butter, dark chocolate and German chocolate mixture that coated the inside of my mouth. Inside the jar, is a thick, goop like peanut butter but upon glancing, you can’t tell that peanut butter even exists inside because the chocolate dominates the color - that didn’t put me off though because the smell of peanut butter expertly combined with chocolate floated up to my nose like cupid himself and reassured me all was right in the world and I would be safe and my belly would be joyous.
If you need to envision something to get the full effect, take a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup, melt it down, and then kick it up three notches with dark chocolate, more peanut butter and old fashioned German Chocolate. Voila! Instant grown up happiness in a jar.
P.B.Loco has it right when they say this is an “Adult Peanut Butter.” Kids can’t handle it. All of mine wanted a taste (did you really think I would get to have any of it to myself?), and so I obliged them with a spoonful of their own. Their reviews were mixed but mostly ranged around, “I don’t get it” and “It tastes weird.” Eventually I hope their taste buds will mature and appreciate the fine art of mixing peanut butter and chocolate just for people like me.
I have to admit, when I went to P.B.Loco’s website, I was skeptical because flavors like Peanut Butter with Sun-Dried Tomato scared me a little but after sampling a full size jar of Peanut Butter with Dark Chocolate Duo (in two days with nothing more than a big spoon), I say bring it on! The people at P.B.Loco have an understanding that the grown ups need peanut butter too but in a more refined way than kids do.
I plan on ordering more (like three or five) soon because I have a feeling the Peanut Butter with Dark Chocolate Duo would make THE BEST No Bake Cookies I have ever tasted (’scuse me while I salivate much), and I can’t wait to try it out. Plus, I will need to try it it on apples, celery, with graham crackers and possibly home made Rice Krispie Treats.

I use to work at a PB Loco Cafe, and it was fantastic.
If you get the chance, head over to one. (Hurry though, most of them are closing. Mine did)
The Curry was my favorite, and the PBLT (Sun dried tomato, lettuce, cream cheese, and bacon was the BEST)

Mix vigorously. Becomes: Nutella?

Nutella is chocolate with hazelnut. A world of difference!
Can anyone confirm the cafe in Mall of America has closed? Am heading out next week but can’t find anything about it on their website or Mall of America’s store directory. Was hoping to bring home some peanut butter with European Cafe mocha. It’s the most amazing thing!

The Mall of America store closed on December 31st, 2007. I was sad. I’d only been to the cafe once. It was last year when my parents came to visit me from NJ. They came back again at the end of August this year and we returned tot the Mall only to find P.B. Loco gone. Very sad.
Thank goodness I can order over the internet! ![]()

I have tried to order Chocolate Duo P.B. over the internet recently and the page is gone!! Is P.B. Loco gone? Where can I find anything as delicious as the Chocolate Duo or European Mocha. Anyone find anything comparable that is still available?

Definitely try the Asian Curry Spice. Yum!
Some time in your life you should head over to a PB Loco store/cafe. I visited the one in the Mall of America and had the most awesome sandwich. It was called the Wacko and consisted of their Curry Spice peanut butter, pickles, coconut and potato chips.
