Snack Review: Mountain Dew Voltage

Okay, so I’m probably one of the only people on the planet that hasn’t tried Mountain Dew, which is why I decided to try out Mountain Dew Voltage. Makes sense, right? Yeah, I didn’t think so either.
However, I was fascinated by how they marketed this product. The company decided to make three new flavors of Mountain Dew, but wanted the public to pick which one they liked the best. And yes, you got it, Mountain Dew Voltage won this DEWmocracy.
Mountain Dew Voltage is “a blue colored raspberry-citrus and ginseng flavored Dew.” Does any word in this description sound appetizing to me? If I had to pick the words I like, they would be “a” and “blue”. Having never consumed even a regular Mountain Dew before, I would not at all buy this based on that description. Something about raspberry-citrus and ginseng flavor doesn’t sound too good. Now, if they had a “mint chocolate and peanut butter flavored Dew” I might do it.
So I didn’t think it’d be fair to try Mountain Dew Voltage without trying the original Mountain Dew. As for my thoughts on Mountain Dew original? I think it has a sweet citrusy taste to it, however, it wasn’t as fizzy as I thought it would be. Being an avid dieter, I could almost taste the sugar sticking to my teeth.
Now onto Mountain Dew Voltage. While the regular Mountain Dew is a bright yellow/green color, Mountain Dew Voltage is blue. Once I opened the bottle, I could smell a faint blueberry aroma. I figured it would have the same citrusy taste as the regular Mountain Dew, so I wasn’t keeping my hopes up.
However, my first thought once I tasted this drink was: Mmmmm. This drink was a little fizzier than the regular Mountain Dew I just drank and I didn’t really taste the citrus flavor at all. This beverage reminded me of blueberry-flavored candy. Don’t get me wrong, I could still taste the sugar all over my tongue and lips, but it was more like I just ate candy than drank something.
If I had to choose between the two, I would definitely say that Mountain Dew Voltage is a step up from the original drink. It looks like the public chose correctly when they picked Mountain Dew Voltage as the winner. I would absolutely drink this again, but would love it even more if it came in diet form. Maybe someday, right?
What did you think of Mountain Dew Voltage? Did anyone vote in the contest for the other flavors that were in the running?

I have to wonder about the point of reviewing this as someone who isn’t even a soda drinker, especially Mountain Dew.
As a huge Dew addict, though, I must agree that Voltage is absolutely -outstanding-. One of the best sodas I’ve ever tasted, bar none.

I love Voltage. It tastes awesome frozen. Like a blue raspberry icee.
