Snack Review: Kraft Macaroni and Cheese Crackers

Long ago, in a time lost in the mists of history, someone thought to put a sauce made of milk and cheese over tubes of macaroni. This heroic innovator had to stand over a stove, stirring the ingredients, making sure there were no lumps, boiling and draining pasta, baking the finished dish in an oven. But civilization agreed that it was good, and so, for decades, cooks suffered to provide this delectable combination.
Then, miracles of modern technology saved us from all that effort: We were given envelopes of powdered cheese sauce. They were even packaged in the right amount with a box of macaroni. Sure, you still had to boil water, cook the macaroni, measure some milk, and mix it all together. But now, here was a dish that anyone could enjoy in minutes.
Fast forward to the 21st century: now you can just take a package of macaroni and cheese and zap it in the microwave. Even a child could do it. What could be simpler?
Well, this could be simpler: Macaroni and cheese in the form of crackers. No heating. No fork. It’s almost like having it directly injected into your veins.
Kraft Macaroni and Cheese Crackers will appeal to you if you’re the sort of person who sticks their finger in the cheese-powder packet and licks it off before you mix the powder into the cooked macaroni. Not that I would ever do such a thing, oh no.
Don’t be surprised that while the crackers are the general shape of a piece of macaroni, they don’t have a hole running through them like a macaroni tube. I would hate you to be disappointed to discover this. Not that I would know anything about that feeling.
Of course, these Kraft Macaroni and Cheese Crackers also have to stand up to the competition of other cheese crackers. I grew up in a Cheese Tid-Bit family, but I’m not sure they’re even manufactured anymore. Now, I live in a Cheez-It household, as many compromises must be made in the name of a harmonious marriage. Would I eat these instead of Cheez-its? I think I like the sharper cheese taste of Cheez-its better. But these are definitely a lot neater than eating the cheese sauce mix out of the packet with your finger, so they have their place.

Here is my burning question- how would these fare if sprinkled
in a bowl of tomato soup? Now, in theory, and without ever having
tried these, this sounds like a possible fabulous food combo. But
being a little new-food-shy, maybe I will wait for someone else to try
it first and let me know how it goes. ![]()

Pugs love them! But pugs love anything cheese flavored… and they will eat
some pretty yucky stuff. They are not very picky snack reviewers.
