Snack Review: Food Should Taste Good Chips

I recently had the chance to review a brand of chips that I had never heard of before called Food Should Taste Good. I thought that was quite a catchy name; one that would most likely make me buy them in the store just because of the cool name.
I was sent many varieties to review and wasn’t quite sure what to pick first. The choices I had were Multigrain, Olive, Buffalo, Jalapeño, Chocolate, Sweet Potato and The Works. These were all exciting-sounding flavors to try. Surprisingly, the one I was most afraid to try became my favorite one of all.
Chocolate: Since I am madly in love with chocolate, I decided to try those first. The chip had a mild chocolate taste to it. It was definitely crispy and had a nice crunch to it, but chocolate and salt was not a good combo for me. The company recommends crumbling these on top of vanilla ice cream or enjoying them with a glass of red wine, but since I had neither of those readily available to me, I tried my own variation. I decided to try the chip by spreading peanut butter on it, but found that it took away the flavor of the chocolate.
Olive: This chip was interesting because it tasted pretty much like a green olive. It was also circle-shaped and I would definitely recommend this for those people who like the taste of green olives. I have a feeling this would taste good with hummus.
Buffalo: This chip was hot, although it did take a while for it to get there. I noticed that it didn’t taste like buffalo until the aftertaste. Snacks with a lingering aftertaste are tricky; sometimes the aftertaste tastes nothing like what it’s supposed to, but this one did. This chip would be perfect for the guys on game day, paired with chip dip.
Jalapeño: This chip wasn’t as hot as buffalo. If you are like me and are afraid to try something hot, give these a try because they have more of a mild taste. This chip was designed for wimps like me so we can say that we actually tried something jalapeño-flavored.
Multigrain: These chips were mild with a hint of salt. They are made with flax, sunflower and sesame seeds, but I didn’t taste any of them. However, they did have a crunchy nut flavor.
The Works: These contain Poppy and Caraway seeds, minced garlic and onions. That sounds like a pretty busy chip. I tasted many different flavors in this chip, with caraway being the most prominent. I had a garlicky taste in my mouth afterward, so I had to make sure I didn’t kiss anyone until the flavor wore off. These chips definitely earned the name of The Works.
Sweet Potato: These were the last chips I tried. I was a bit afraid to try them because, honestly, eating a sweet potato chip didn’t really appeal to me. I had no idea what it was going to taste like, and even though I love sweet potatoes, I wasn’t sure they belonged in my snacking experience.
Let me just say, I was totally wrong. I first noticed the shape of the chip, which resembled a sweet potato. Upon my first bite, I noticed through the crisp crunch that it tasted exactly like a sweet potato. The flavor wasn’t overpowering and I soon found myself finishing the whole bag. So I decided to take it one step further. I had some bread lying around and decided to make a sweet potato chip sandwich.
I’m sure you’ve all tried a potato chip sandwich in your lifetime; this was no different. I placed about ten sweet potato chips in between the two slices of bread and bit down. It didn’t disappoint. The crunchy taste of the chip combined with the soft white bread was truly a great snacking experience. I have to say that the sweet potato chip is definitely my favorite; made even better on two slices of white bread.
Overall, these chips were all crispy and crunchy. They are low in calories for any of you dieters out there, and would taste great with any chip dip or hummus.
The Food Should Taste Good website is pretty cool, because it offers suggestions on what to pair these chips with such as veggie dip, artichoke spinach dip or even salsa.
Has anyone ever tried these before? If so, which flavor was your favorite?
