Snack Review: Divvies Molasses Ginger Cookies
Last week, as I was cleaning my apartment (a rare enough occurrence), I came across a box which seemed out of place. Intrigued, I opened it up to discover a small treasure of snacks from the folks over at Divvies. Words I won’t repeat here suddenly erupted forth as I realized that this box had been sitting around for a few weeks and the review was sorely overdue.
As I looked through the contents I realized someone else would probably be a better fit to do the review, as I don’t really like ginger in any form. So, I figured I would just pack the box back up and send it on its way to one of the other writers. That’s when a little voice told me to look at the expiration date on the cookies. D’oh! They’d never make it before their date expired. Panicked, I searched my brain for someone close by who could review them. This is when I realized that a) I really need to get more friends and b) my employer loves baked goods! I trotted over with the box and settled in to record her opinion.
Upon opening the nicely presented box, we found 12 packages containing two cookies each. We also found a little note saying that the cookies were baked fresh and could be put in the freezer to extend their shelf life. Double d’oh. I desperately hoped they would still be good.
Luckily, I needn’t have worried. My tester reported that they were super fresh and very soft. She said that they melted in her mouth - at this point I really wished I liked ginger! As a veritable connoisseur of baked goods, her praise is high praise indeed! She also mentioned that the sugar complemented the ginger very nicely, keeping it from being too strong. The ginger and molasses pairing was also nice; according to her, molasses alone can be boring, but with the ginger was very pleasant.
The concept behind Divvies is that they’re safe for those with food allergies - all of their products are peanut free, tree nut free, egg free, AND dairy free. You’re kind of left wondering what’s left to go into their products, but clearly they figure it out somehow. Note that none of this says “Fat Free.” The molasses ginger cookies have 11 grams of fat per cookie (though the nutrition facts on the box differ from the nutrition facts on the individual cookie packets - color me confused).
So if you’re looking for a tasty treat and worry about allergies, definitely give these a try. Or, better yet, send in a few with your kid to school without any guilt about causing a reaction if your offspring shares - that’s what Divvies are all about! Safe snacks kids can share and enjoy without having to worry about potentially deadly consequences. It doesn’t hurt that they taste great, too.
