Snack Review: A&W Root Beer Float (in a bottle)

I love a good ice cream float - especially root beer floats. When I saw the bottle that said A&W Root Beer Float in my local convenience store, I was more than excited. A root beer float in a bottle? Oh yeah, I’m there!
Unfortunately, I don’t think this could have tasted worse if they were trying to make it taste bad. It had that tan, ice cream plus root beer look to it, but it was super sweet and tasted really strongly of black licorice. Most good root beer has a licorice undertone but this was too much. Gah! I couldn’t even finish it. I poured it out after three or four swigs. It was truly awful.
Get one now if you are a soft drink/bottle collector because I can’t imagine these will last long. These also come in Sunkist Soda Orange Float flavor and I’ve heard those taste pretty darn good (like a Creamsicle), but I haven’t tried it myself.
If you want a good ice cream float at home, make one yourself and skip the float in a bottle.

I could not agree with you more! I tried one a couple weeks back and could not believe how horrible it was.

I tried the orange creamsicle kind and it was okay… tasted better once I partially froze it though!

I agree - this was disgusting. It had a terrible aftertaste.

Absolutely disgusting. My kids wouldn’t even drink it, and that’s saying alot. I wanted my 2 bucks back plus damages.

there was an “eat me” sign on a bottle at work, i tried it and i rather enjoyed it. it tasted nothing of home made ice cream float. BUT i enjoyed it because it tastes close enough to the real thing to bring back the memories of my local A&W shop back home, which i miss because i moved away after joining the military.

I am looking for a snack food item that could resemble a root. My 4th grade daughter is having a Halloween party and they must dress up like trees with roots. We can only bring root like snacks. Any ideas I would love to hear. Thanks!!!
