New Snack Review: Newtons Fruit Crisps

I’ve always been a Fig Newton fan. If I’m on a road trip or lazing around on the beach, my backpack will inevitably contain several sleeves of gooey Newtons. They’re such a solid snack, you know? Depending on your hunger level, they can either act as a quick bite (serving size: 2 Newtons) or as a meal replacement (serving size: 8 Newtons).
However, after manufacturing the same product of over a century, I can understand why Nabisco wanted to diversify. These cookies are great, but with the advent of Gogurt and Cheeseburger in a Can, the Newton Big Wigs (or should I say Big Figs? Oh, snap!) needed to shake things up. Staying relevant in the snack industry is a blood and guts business, and if you’re not ready to step it up a notch, you can expect to go the sad, forgotten way of Hostess’ Pudding Pies.
So how do these snacks shake down? Well, although it seems odd to attach the Newton name to a food that doesn’t stick to your teeth, these Crisps aren’t half bad. Imagine someone ironed a normal Fig Newton until it was flattened and crunchy, and you’ve pretty much got a Fruit Crisp. There’s a hard outer shell - which fractures like Tectonic Plates when you bite down on it – followed by a thin layer of succulent apple filling.
I nibbled on these Fruit Crisps while enjoying a cup of my roommate’s gourmet coffee, and the combination made me feel surprisingly sophisticated. Which is totally weird. Because not only are these snacks mass produced, but they also bear a striking resemblance to McDonald’s Apple Pies (aka, the Anti-Christs of sophistication).
But the more I think about Fruit Crisps, the more I like them. Yes, they appeal to a mass audience, but they do so in a way that’s fresh and exciting. These Fruit Crisps have pizzazz! They have spunk! And that’s exactly what this country needs after years of uninspiring snack foods. How long have we been eating the same old Fig Newtons, with the same old taste? Too long, I say! It’s time for something different.
Some might argue that these Crisps are skinny and untested, but don’t be fooled. Sure, they may not have the experience of some of our older snack foods, but does that really matter? These Fruit Crisps posses the ability to lead our nation towards a better tomorrow! A tomorrow where snacks will satisfy without fattening, crackle without crumbling, and leave your taste buds tingling without dirtying your hands.
If you ask me, that’s change we can believe in.

I love the fruit crisps and so does my husband, grown kids and grandkids.
problem is finding them. I have found them only at one of our
local walmarts. Now they only have the apple.
Where else can we find these great snacks?

They shouldn’t be too hard to find - Just don’t look for them in the granola bar isle. They’re found next to the Fig Newtons in the cookie isle for some reason.

I got these at my local walmart the other day cause I needed some munchies while I’m at work and boy are they good or what? And better still each pack is only 100 calories.
I’m not a fan of fig newtons but I sure love this alot. I have to restrain myself from eating more than two at a time ![]()
The contrast between the crispy shell and the chewy filling is absolutely delicious.

I am eating Newton’S “Fruit Crisps” for the first time today. They are super! Just keep producing them and keep producing them and keep reducing the “FAT” content.

These are absolutely delicious and addicting! Jim, this is not Fig Newtons these are GREAT! I’m not a fan of fig Newtons but these are totally different and DEE LICIOUS! Why can’t I find them anywhere? I work as a lunch lady and the mixed berry was served as the dessert for the lunch this week and hardly any of the kids grabbed their dessert. I needed a quick something and figured I’d try it and I’ve been raving over them since. I need to get some. My family loves them too. Shaws & Stop & Shop in my area do not carry it. The Walmart I have is not a super store so they don’t carry it either. We need Newton Fruit Crisps in Southeastern MA. I’ve hooked at least 25 other adults (families) and we’re all looking for them!

Being anti-Newtonian, I’ll never try these, despite your
uplifting review. I did, however, enjoy your
thinly veiled political statement at the end.
Rock the vote.
